Pernell RobertsJr. as Adam Cartwright

Adam Cartwright what can we say about this character. Did you like his Character? Did you like Pernell Roberts Jr. ?

Here is a little help for those of you who have no clue who Pernell Roberts Jr. was.

Pernell Roberts Jr. was born in North Carolina on May 18 1928, his father Pernell Roberts Sr. and mother Minnie Roberts moved shortly after Pernell was born to Georgia. That right Pernell grew up in the south back in the late 20-30's! As a young child Pernell was exposed to unfairness against color, sexism. Pernell soon realized when he was about 6 years old going to a southern Baptist Church where is grandfather was the minister there can to the conclusion, if a Christian is for Jesus Christ than why are the Blacks not allowed in out church, Pernell knew than he had to change the world image on the way we saw think, and treated women, people of color, and people who were well just plain different!

Growing up Pernell would sing in the church choir, and act in plays in school! He loved to sing and act, Pernell knew just what he wanted to do with his life. Pernell sometimes awkward and shy was not shy about one thing, he would March and protest the right for equal housing for blacks, and women!

Pernell at age 22 fell in love with his first wife Vera they got married in 1951 and had a son together born 1951 birth name was Johnathan Christopher Roberts known best for Chris Roberts to the outside world!  Vera was Pernell professor at school where he sang and acted that is how they met.

From 1951-1958 Pernell worked many different kind of jobs from being a grave stone maker is his most popular job you will hear about, he also served in the United states Marine Core!
Struggling to find a job as an actor and hoping from one cast call to another Pernell Roberts finally landed his start in 1959 on the #1 series sitcom Bonanza! There he played Adam Cartwright the eldest son of Ben Cartwright aka Loren Greene and the oldest brother to Eric (Hoss) Cartwright aka Dan Blocker and Joseph Francis Cartwright aka Michael Landon.

In 1959 Bonanza aired on the TV and became a success from the first series to the last of the series!
Some people think Pernell should of been happy being involved in a #1 series show but to the surprise he was not happy at all, he said for years he wanted to quit the show and go back to Broadway is real true love, but Pernell had a child to care for back home with his mother Vera, Pernell and Vera got divorced in 1959 at the start of Bonanza no records that I know of today say why they separated! Pernell worked to make sure his child had everything he needed.

Pernell sometimes eccentric, was not happy with the way Bonanza was taking off, he did not enjoy playing Adam Cartwright, he was not pleased at all with NBC and the power they had over him and his character!

In 1961 Pernell fell in love with his second wife Judy, she was an actress and singer just like Pernell, the couple stayed hidden for sometime, as Pernell played the role of an eligible bachelor to the public eye, soon pictures came out on who Pernell was married to and how much deeply in love he was with Judy! Judy and Pernell got divorced in December of 1971!

In 1965 Pernell played his final series as Adam and left the show for good, most thought he return but he never did, he never looked back, many reports have him saying he never regretted his leaving Bonanza but when his co stars started dying off  friends and loved ones would say Pernell enjoyed watching reruns of the show to see old friends! I think he did miss the show after all!

In the mean time he found himself enjoying his Broadway, and picking up spots on TV episodes.

In 1972 he married his third wife Kara who was a Broadway actress/singer the couple stayed married for almost 25 years, while Pernell played in the TV sitcom Trapper John MD.  Pernell happy with landing the role as Trapper John soon found himself unhappy about the way the show was going, he said " it all make believe, the stuff that goes on would never happen in real life"

In 1996 Pernell and Kara got divorced and he soon found his fourth wife Eleanor  they got married in 1997 and stayed married until his death in 2010!

Pernell was never happy with himself as a whole, his true love was Broadway and his first wife Vera.

Throughout these marriages Pernell would protest, storm the gates of NBC and was known as a activistical person!

Pernell was a true southern Gentlemen, he lost his son in 1989 to a motorcycle accident, which I am sure haunted Pernell for the rest of his life!

Pernell was a terrific person, a dear man, and the man I loved watching and love to marry!

Is he is everything a little girl dreams about!

If you do not know Pernell Roberts I suggest you look him up on the web because this man is truly unique, kind, and sweet!

I was very sadden the day he passed, I knew Hollywood lost a great man, and the sound of his voice when he sang would melt your heart.

Pernell Roberts died in his home in Malibu California to Pancreatic cancer Jan 28,2010!

Not sure why he was married four times, but reports have it that he stayed in good contact with all his wives and they stayed friends, I think Pernell never truly found his soul mate or maybe his soul mate was not here of this earth yet, or maybe she was just plain to dang young for him.

I believe he will meet her someday in heaven and they will be happy together for the rest of there eternal lives!

Thanks you so much, there is much more I can say about Pernell but I do not want to bore my readers there will be more to come very soon!!!

Until the next time my Bonanza friends enjoy the reruns :)
